During this time, a variety of still lifes, and landscapes portraits, the "distinguished vigorous brushwork, fresh, intense colors, dynamics and spontaneity" by one, said curator Christina Klittich. In her still-life painter had highlighted the simple, unspectacular everyday items - pillows, chairs, tools - and made it the central motif. "The images live from the contrast between movement and rigidity," continues the curator. Particularly impressive are the self-portraits by Melissa Schnarrenberger, all of which attracted attention by "a dark color, pessimism and loneliness." In addition, the artist has also painted people of their immediate environment - and sometimes in very intense colors, "said Klittich. "In Melitta landscape portraits, nature throws a flood of colors." The politically committed artist who lived from 1938 until her death in Lenzkirch, has many "Black Forest pictures" painted.
